If you are a homeowner, then you should take some time to explore your tax deductions. Let’s dive into the tax breaks you should consider as a homeowner.


  • The IRS announced that interest rates will remain the same for the calendar quarter beginning Jan. 1, 2024.
  • For individuals, the rate for overpayments and underpayments will be 8% per year, compounded daily. Here is a complete list of the new rates:
  • 8% for overpayments (payments made in excess of the amount owed), 7% for corporations.
  • 5.5% for the portion of a corporate overpayment exceeding $10,000.
  • 8% for underpayments (taxes owed but not fully paid).
  • 10% for large corporate underpayments.
  • Under the Internal Revenue Code, the rate of interest is determined on a quarterly basis. For taxpayers other than corporations, the overpayment and underpayment rate is the federal short-term rate plus three percentage points.
  • ❗ In the case of a corporation, the underpayment rate is the federal short-term rate plus three percentage points and the overpayment rate is the federal short-term rate plus two percentage points. The rate for large corporate underpayments is the federal short-term rate plus five percentage points. The rate on the portion of a corporate overpayment of tax exceeding $10,000 for a taxable period is the federal short-term rate plus one-half of a percentage point.

✔️Teachers spend personal funds on classroom supplies, but the Educator Expense Deduction allows eligible educators to reduce their taxes by deducting technology, supplies, and training costs. This deduction applies only to unreimbursed expenses.

✔️The taxpayer must be a kindergarten through grade 12 teacher, instructor, counselor, principal or aide. They must also work at least 900 hours a school year in a school that provides elementary or secondary education as determined under state law.

✔️Books and supplies.

✔️COVID-19 protective items to stop the spread of the disease in the classroom.

✔️Computer equipment, including related software and services.

✔️Other equipment and materials used in the classroom. 


Employers can deduct travel expenses paid or incurred during a temporary work assignment if the assignment is less than one year.

Deductible travel expenses include:

✔️Travel by plane, train, bus or car between home and a business destination

✔️Fares for taxis or other types of transportation between an airport or train station and a hotel, or from a hotel to a work location

✔️Shipping of baggage and sample or display material between regular and temporary work locations

✔️Using a personally owned car for business

✔️Lodging and meals

✔️Dry cleaning and laundry

✔️Business calls and communication

✔️Tips paid for services related to any of these expenses

✔️Other similar ordinary and necessary expenses related to the business travel
